Below is the full testimonial from a 92-year old patient who had a procedure under Dr Patel in April 2025:

“I feel like a new man”

After an ECG test detected he had a left bundle branch block in 2019, David had a pacemaker installed to regulate his heartbeat. But earlier this year, 92-year-old David started feeling extreme tiredness and breathlessness, a change from his normal good health and active lifestyle. He was told that this was just due to his age, but David knew this couldn’t be right – previous tests and scans had shown he had the heart of someone much younger than him. After collapsing in his hallway and becoming very ill with a stomach issue, David decided enough was enough and visited HCA UK.

Here, he was referred to Mr Peysh Patel, a consultant cardiologist at The Harborne Hospital. Listening to David’s concerns, Mr Patel gave David an echocardiogram, which showed significant impairment of his heart function. Recognising that David’s issues weren’t just due to his age, Mr Patel recommended that David upgrade his pacemaker to a biventricular pacemaker, also called a cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) device, to ease his heart problems. Using a video of David’s heart, Mr Patel explained where the device’s leads would go and how it would benefit David.

Coming into The Harborne Hospital on the day of his surgery, David was relieved to be receiving the treatment he needed. The procedure took about an hour and was performed under local anaesthetic and light sedation, and David was discharged the same day. Six weeks later, a scan showed that David’s pump function had greatly improved, and he says that he now feels “like a new man”.

Below are a few words from David:
“Thank goodness I found Mr Patel – he was fantastic and he left no stone unturned. He recognised the actual cause of my heart problem and told me that age doesn’t come into it. It was such a relief to be listened to after all this time. He showed us a video of where the lead for my new pacemaker will go, which was incredible. And after the procedure I feel like a new man. I’m much less tired and breathless – thank you Mr Patel!”
